from the artist . . .
Thank you for taking the time to come
to my website. I hope you will enjoy the art I have created for you!
For my canvas I
use vintage and antique windows that are bound for landfills. I have
pulled windows out of dumpsters, junk shops, and alleyways to give them a
second chance, a second life. I paint on the back of the windows, in
reverse, so that the image shows through the glass. I draw the
foreground first, then add layers of paint until the final background
layer is added. It's a time consuming process, but the end result is a
bright, animated image that juxtaposes the weathered windows.
My paintings are
simple, even primitive. They are happy, but wishful. The simplicity
goes deep, but at the same time remains whimsical. I paint what I would
like to see while looking out a window, in what can be a very confusing
and overwhelming world. I have been told that my art is appealing
because you don’t have to think about it. But if you do, you might
catch a glimpse of what I hope to see. And what you wish you could see,
too.
